Operational Technology Ifrastructure
A Gap Analysis can be as simple as reviewing designs for a future migration and comparing what a team has developed to what the company's leadership expects to get. An example of this was a large chain of hospitals that we worked with. The network engineering team had told the CIO they had designs for the new data centers they were planning to migrate to.
The CIO had not seen any documentation so he requested we perform a Gap Analysis between what he expected to get from the last four years of design work and what the team had documented. It turned out that the team could only send a picture of a whiteboard drawing of the network they planned on implementing and a very high level outline of what they planned on doing. We provided an initial diagram of the network and sent it to the network engineering team along with a rough draft of the Gap Analysis. They added further details to their design and we updated our documentation. This continued for approximately 5 weeks and a final draft was provided to the client. The final draft exposed the risk that the network team was putting all their trust in a device that was only provided by a single manufacturer at the time and this single point of failure could lead to a risk for the hospital. A solid design should be able to function independent of any particular manufacturer.
Most companies say they have documentation, but when you review their documentation, you see that it is out of date and lacks sufficient detail for a new team member to be able to provide support to your users. Supporting most systems in an organization requires “tribal knowledge” and when a key team member leaves, their knowledge leaves with them. A Technical Solutions Document provides enough detail that a competent technician can read the document and use it to make all necessary contacts alerting the appropriate team(s) of an outage, follow the data flow to find out where the problem is in a system, and engage the appropriate team(s) to resolve the issue. If there is turnover on a team, the knowledge to support the systems is not lost and provides better reliability and stability for the company.
Network Redesign and DeploymentMost technical teams are stretched thin. They focus 100% of their efforts on supporting your users and taking them off their current assignment to upgrade a network can be detrimental to supporting your company. With our Network Redesign and Deployment service, we do the heavy lifting. We review the Gap Analysis and Technical Solutions Documentation and develop a High Level Design Document that is presented to your leadership and regulatory teams. Once you approve of the high level designs, we get in the weeds and create a custom solution using products from leaders in the networking space to provide a secure and stable network. After you approve the final design, we support your team by deploying the new equipment and training your team on how to manage it so they can provide ongoing maintenance of your environment.
When Method builds your network, we can provide continued support to either augment existing teams or centralize management in our NOC. We provide proactive monitoring of all network equipment and can expand the monitoring to other systems in your environment. We can also provide access to our monitoring solution for your teams to monitor servers and other devices from a single pane of glass.
